Ontology for Female Endocrine Health
A knowledge representation project exploring relationships across female endocrine health, including symptoms, conditions, disorders, medications, and treatments. Built from medical literature and structured health data, the project uses an ontology and knowledge graph to represent how these concepts relate to one another and support querying across interconnected clinical information. The original academic project is now being extended into a small research paper based on the resulting knowledge structure and analysis.
Why I Created It
We collected medical information from PubMed and other reputable medical sources, then cleaned and structured the data around concepts such as endocrine conditions, symptoms, treatments, diseases and disorders, and medications. Using Protégé, we designed an ontology defining the entities, relationships, and logical properties connecting these concepts. The structured information was then represented as a Neo4j knowledge graph, where queries were used to explore relationships across the dataset—for example, connecting a condition such as PCOS with associated symptoms, treatments, and medications while accounting for the broader clinical relationships between them.
